Pentadecapeptide

A pentadecapeptide is a peptide composed of exactly 15 amino acid residues linked by 14 peptide bonds. The prefix "pentadeca-" derives from Greek for fifteen.

BPC-157 is the most widely studied pentadecapeptide in current research. Its 15-residue sequence (Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val) gives it a molecular weight of 1419.53 Da.

Peptides are classified by length: dipeptide (2), tripeptide (3), tetrapeptide (4), pentapeptide (5), and so on. Peptides up to approximately 50 residues are typically called peptides, while longer chains are classified as polypeptides or proteins. The 15-residue length of BPC-157 places it in the medium range for synthetic peptides.
