In Vitro
"In vitro" (Latin: "in glass") refers to experiments performed outside a living organism in a controlled laboratory setting — in cell cultures, tissue samples, test tubes, or microplates. In vitro studies are a fundamental first step in peptide research.
Many early peptide studies are conducted in vitro: examining receptor binding in cell lines, measuring enzyme activity in purified preparations, or assessing cellular responses in cultured cells. These studies provide mechanistic data under controlled conditions but do not replicate the complexity of whole-organism biology.
