Bacteriostatic Water
Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is sterile water for injection that contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth, extending the usable life of reconstituted solutions compared to plain sterile water.
Reconstituted peptides in bacteriostatic water can typically be stored at 2-8°C for up to 28 days, versus only a few days in plain sterile water. This makes it the preferred reconstitution solvent when multiple uses from a single vial are anticipated.
Plain sterile water is preferred when benzyl alcohol might interfere with specific assay systems. The choice of reconstitution solvent should be determined by the specific research application.
